Meghan is our new School President!

We held our presidential election in school this morning.

The three outstanding candidates were Matthew Watson, Hannah Foy & Meghan Lennon.

All children got to vote this morning & following the count, Meghan was elected school President with Matthew & Hannah coming a joint second.

We're all looking forward to seeing Meghan's ideas coming to fruition over the coming months.

Mindfulness in the Classroom

Here is an example of a brain break in practice in the Junior Room. Movement breaks are very important in helping children to learn. We use them regularly in our whole school. This video is part of the Flow category on GoNoodle.com and there are lots of other excellent videos which focus on mindfulness.

FeelGood Week-LIDL Teddy Bears' Picnic

Many thanks to our local Lidl who sponsored treats for the boys and girls today to celebrate our FeelGood Week. We enjoyed them during our Teddy Bears' Picnic! :)

GAA v Mount Hanover

Last Thursday, the football team had their final match of the season in Trim GAA against Mount Hanover.

Best. Game. Ever.

St. Patrick's had two teams, one for the first half and one for the second. We opened the game with several unanswered points. Mount Hanover came back into the game eventually and at half time there was nothing between the teams. St. Patrick's kept the momentum going in the second half, and when the final whistle blew, there was only a point in favour of Mount Hanover separating us.

While players were disappointed to have lost in the end, the standard of play and quality of shots taken showed the unbelievable improvements our team has made since the start of the year.

It was nearly impossible to select a player of the match, as every single player got stuck in, used their new skills and never gave up. However, Conor O'Donnell and Eleanor Watson both played their best matches to date against Mount Hanover. It was great to see the increased confidence the two of them had on the pitch last Thursday.

I want to say a special well done to our other 3rd Class players, Oscar, Max, Gavin and Hugo, and Hannah and Maxism, who have only begun playing this year in school! Congratulations to the older and more experienced players in 4th, 5th and 6th who helped everyone to improve and led the way on the pitch.

The best thing for every player on the team to do now is to keep practicing your new skills and developing them!

Final training session tomorrow (Tuesday) 2-3pm.

Lá Buí do LPTs

You may have noticed that the teachers in our school were wearing yellow
yesterday. This was to raise awareness and show support for the Lesser Paid Teachers (LPTs).

In Ireland at the moment, there are a group of teachers who will not earn as much as their colleagues. Despite doing equal work, they do not get equal pay. This is because of the year they graduated from college.

There is an upcoming INTO ballot on a new deal (PSSA) which would see some improvements in this issue, but there would still not be equal pay for equal work.

A teacher who qualified in 2013 (for example, Ms. Keane) has already lost around €26,000 due to pay inequality. She stands to lose another €16,000 if this pay deal is accepted.

We are hoping that teachers vote NO in this ballot, as this inequality in the workplace cannot be allowed to continue.

Equality for some still means inequality for others!
