Caterpillars

Each of the classrooms were gifted with a butterfly kit from the Parent's Association. We started off with smalll caterpillars which got bigger and bigger...and have now begun to form their chrysalis!!! The next step is beautiful butterflies.

Many thanks to the Westphals for bringing in this stunning butterfly display. It shows all of the butterflies found in Ireland. 

Mountlucas Windfarm Visit Day 2

Senior pupils (3rd-6th class) from Ms Kilrane and Mr Larke's room along with Ms Grisewood went on a tour to Mount Lucas Wind Farm in Co Offaly and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The trip was educational AND fun and Catherine, our guide, was brilliantly entertaining throughout. First we had a talk about Climate change and the importance of renewable energy forms such as wind energy and then the pupils had the opportunity to try out some of the interactive games and quizzes in the Learning Hub and see a wind turbine up close (the average height is about 100 metres, just a little smaller than The Spire on O'Connell Street in Dublin)! The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly the chance to wear a virtual reality headset and experience for yourself what it's like to be inside a wind turbine and see the landscape from the very top of a turbine.... pretty cool and you'd need a head for heights!!! Autumn Leaves in Trim!

Juniors, Seniors and First Class went on a nature walk today in Trim to explore the colours of Autumn. The children were put into groups and each group was in charge of a colour. It was a fun, energetic and engaging way to observe the season of Autumn in the local environment! Have a look at how we got on...

Snails

Yesterday, Frankie from the EU Offices in Kiltale came in to our school. We are going to be getting snails soon, and we needed to learn about them so we can take proper care of them. Frankie paid a visit to all of the classrooms and showed us different sizes of snail shells, a PowerPoint full of interesting information, things made from snails and even some real snails! Everyone learned a lot and it was a really fun morning!
