ASW-Thursday

We had another very busy day today for our Active School Week!

Fergal Lawlor from Mugendo Martial Arts Academy came in today and did classes with Third-Sixth and Juniors and Seniors. This was a great workout for the children and they learned some really good skills. He also spoke to the younger children about personal safety (strangers, getting lost, etc.)
Fergal does classes for both adults and children in Trim and Athboy, and you can find out more on his website:  http://mugendomartialartsacademy.com/index.html or by ringing him on 085 786 2812.

Dorothy from Trim Tennis Club also invited our school to come and try tennis today! We would like to say a massive thank you to the different coaches that took time out of their day teach the children. Everyone had a fantastic time and got a chance to learn new skills. The tennis club also do classes for children 6 years old and upwards which will be on Saturday morning at 10.00-11.00 from 9th May. Contact Dorothy on 0863768568 for more information.

Today was another great and active day, and well done to everybody for getting so involved!

ASW-Wednesday

Because it is Active School Week, we are trying to do a brain break every day in the classroom. These can be anything from stretching to dancing to running and skipping, but they give the children a break from work and a chance to let off some steam. Here is a video of Ms. Ibs' room doing one:

Rob Ryan from Trim Celtic came in and did soccer with the children all morning. It was great to learn and practice soccer skills, and we really appreciate him giving up his morning for us!

Then we had a visit from Paralympian James Scully. James is a swimmer with the Irish Paralympic team and told us about winning bronze for Ireland and his hopes for going to Rio 2016. We wish him the best of luck! Here he is with our Active School Committee:

Erica from Aura Leisure Centre,Trim, came in for a bootcamp with the all of the classrooms. There were warm up activities, stretches and an obstacle course to get everyone active!

We also had Denise Church from Trim Physiotherapy Clinic (www.trimphysio.com/0469438317) who did pilates with the children and spoke about the importance of good posture and exercise.

Finally, Ms. Ibs' and Mr. Larke's rooms got to do Zumba with Edel! Edel teaches Zumba for both adults and children, and you can find her timetable and further information on her facebook page (Zumba with Edel/0861080913). Everyone really enjoyed the Zumba, even the teachers!

Don't forget tennis rackets tomorrow if you have them! We will also be doing kickboxing tomorrow, so if you haven't returned your consent form, please ensure it's back tomorrow or you won't be able to take part!

Finally, a big thank you to Tracey Owen-Griffiths who looks after our school library, and who decorated it for Active School Week. She made bunting and put lots of sports books on display for us to read!
