It is the
policy of this school to give homework on a continuous basis and to seek the
co-operation of parents/ guardians in this area. Parents are asked to check
both written and learning work and ensure it has been completed correctly.
Parents are asked to sign the homework journal each night.
Why
give homework?
- It reinforces what the pupil has
learned in school
- It gives revision exercises and
extra practice work
- It provides an effective link
between home and school as parents are aware of what their child is
learning and how they are progressing
- It is a good discipline and forms
good study habits for secondary school
Pupil
responsibilities
Pupils are
expected to complete their homework neatly, fully and to the best of their
ability.
Parental
Responsibilities
- to provide a warm, quiet and
comfortable room with no television and no distractions
- It is recommended that homework
is completed early in the evening and that parents check that their child
has completed their homework properly
- Parents
should sign the homework journal each night (
for all class groups from September ’09)
- There is a useful section of each
homework diary where comments, remarks or notes may be written by either
teacher or parent. This is a very effective communication link between
home and school
- It is important to remember that
homework may include several of the following: reading, writing,
spellings, tables, learning work and project work
Recommended
time to be spent on homework
It is
important to remember that the following is an approximate guide to the amount
of time to be spent on homework and will vary depending upon pupil ability,
