Next year (2018), St Patrick's NS will be working towards getting their second Green Schools Flag and as one of the steps towards obtaining that second flag, the whole school participated in a workshop run by Gavin Harte on Wednesday the 13th of December on the theme of energy. The workshop was fantastic and consisted of 3 stations where the children learned about different types of energy and generated Watts of energy by riding a stationary bicycle. They even helped to make smoothies by pedalling a stationary bike to generate more energy and best of all, everyone got to taste the smoothie! We also learned how many watts of energy were used by common household objects and appliances such as electric showers and kettles.

Christmas in the Past
Many thanks to Úna Kilrane who came in to talk to the Junior and Middle Rooms today about Christmas in the past! It was great to hear a first-hand account of life long ago and she also had photographs to show the children of Wren Boys, clothes worn and more! Well done to the boys and girls for asking such great questions too!
The children are also learning about toys in the past. Juniors and Seniors got to explore toys from the past today:

Classroom Opening
We had a wonderful morning today for the new classroom's official opening! Many thanks to all who attended, especially Bishop Storey. The children did an amazing job with their singing and poems, and 6th Class read their prayers beautifully. All of the pupils should be very proud of the excellent behaviour shown for our special day. A big thank you to the Parent's Association for providing refreshments afterwards.
Supervalu and Lidl provided the school with hot food and loads of fruit too! Yum!

Snails
Yesterday, Frankie from the EU Offices in Kiltale came in to our school. We are going to be getting snails soon, and we needed to learn about them so we can take proper care of them. Frankie paid a visit to all of the classrooms and showed us different sizes of snail shells, a PowerPoint full of interesting information, things made from snails and even some real snails! Everyone learned a lot and it was a really fun morning!
DID YOU KNOW: A snail's body is called a foot!!!
DID YOU KNOW: It takes a snail 27 hours to lay an egg!!!
DID YOU KNOW: Snails can only see light and dark shapes!!!
