ASW-Tuesday

We had another busy day today for our Active School Week!

This morning Michael Finnegan from the Road Safety Authority spoke with the whole school about staying safe on the road. 

He spoke to us about pedestrian safety, cycling, car safety and lots more! 

Jane Mc Sherry came in and did rugby with all of the classrooms. She is a coach for Navan Rugby Football Club, and gave up her whole day to coach us!

We also did badminton in the hall today. Mr. Larke's room began their badminton league. 

Ms. Keane's classroom learned some new badminton skills and had competitions. 

Well done to the winner, Adam! 

Ms. Ibs' room had lots of fun learning their new skills and playing badminton too! 

Finally, a big thank you to Tracey Owen-Griffiths who looks after our school library, and who decorated it for Active School Week. She made bunting and put lots of sports books on display for us to read!

ASW-Monday

We had a great first day in our Active School Week!

Our first visitor was Cora McEvoy from Yoga in Schools (www.yis.ie). Each classroom got a chance to do some yoga exercises and stretches, and Cora was a brilliant instructor.

Mr. Larke's room did athletics with David Mc Caffrey, who is the Sports Development Officer from the Meath Local Sports Partnership. 

Ms. Ibs' room were visited by Paul Friel from Meath Co. Council who gave them a taster session of the Be Active ASAP programme. The children really enjoyed the activities in this programme, particularly when they had to work in teams to build a tunnel from hula hoops!

Juniors and Seniors had lots of fun doing some dancing in the classroom! They learned the dance Skip to My Lou.

Don't forget to get active this evening for your active homework! 

ASW Homework

Because it is Active School Week (ASW) this week, for homework we are encouraging all of the children to be active after school. Each classroom will have active homework set for the children. Children should record any additional exercise they do in their journals.

Being active can be anything from jumping on your trampoline or going for a walk to football training or a karate class! There are lots of ideas for getting active on the Activity Pyramid!

Active School Week 2015

This week we are very excited to have our first Active School Week in St. Patrick's N.S.! We are going to do lots of different activities all week and have loads of visitors coming to the school to teach us new skills and sports!

Green School Day of Action

Before the Easter Holidays we had our Green School Day of Action. As you know, we have been working hard towards getting our school's first Green School Flag, and we had a lot of fun on our Day of Action!

We began the day by watching these two videos:

Then we got into our groups to pick up litter around Trim. Many thanks to the parents who came with us to help out!

We collected loads of litter! Here is our Green School Committee with some of the bags we collected before they were collected and disposed of properly:

Elliott and Amelia went around to all of the classrooms to give a talk on the importance of plants for the environments and  the different parts of plant. 

Then everyone got a chance to plant a seed, and the Green School Committee members planted our new window boxes and hanging baskets. 

We had a lot of fun doing our Litter Pick-Up Races! All of the groups had races to see who could pick up the most amount of rubbish on the pitch. 

Then we went into the hall to make robots out of recycled materials in our groups. Everyone worked really hard and all of the robots turned out fantastic! Here are some pictures of the robots being built. Click into Mr. Larke's page to see pictures the finished robots!

When Juniors and Seniors went home, the older classes had a table quiz with a blindfolded Mystery Green Food Tasting Round! Bernie bought lots of green food...some were more popular than others!
